AVG Anti-virus
Do Weekly : Check for updates first then scan computer. Right click on the AVG icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. After updating, click on Test Center and then click Scan Computer. If this icon is grayed out, you need to do the manual update to be protected.

When Zonealarm asks you to Allow these programs, say Yes :
Common Client, Internet Explorer, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Live Update, Norton or Symantec programs, Zonealarm/Zone Labs programs, Media Player, Outlook Express, Chat or Instant Messenger
Say NO if it asks to Allow Windows Explorer.

Do weekly - Click Start, then Windows Update, Choose Custom, Not Express. Do Not install Windows XP Service Pack 2.
